I am currently working at a dental lab four days a week . It is a job of great accuracy and double checking and margins and measuring and rechecking and making things work and grind and bite and signing off on. Equiliberating and degassing and glazing and staining and sandblasting.
Punch in to a computer to check in and start the work. Headphone up and get the job done and recheck some more. It is rigid as it should be, we make a quality product. The lights are bright and machines and vacuums whir, it's noisy. I wear my Doc Martins and feel tough. I love it!
I am currently working in my art studio evenings and Friday and Saturdays and sometimes on Sundays. It is warm and has a little fireplace that hums and two cats that purr, the lights are soft and gentle and the music I play I like a lot. I have a comfy chair to take breaks in and have a cup of tea. I color outside the lines, I let it rip, go with the flow, I play, wear comfy, painterly pants and sing and dance when I choose. I take breaks and walk outside to get inspirations. I wear ridiculous knitted slipper booties that have shiny diamonds on them. I am free. Art feeds my spirit. I love it!
Two different worlds but in a strange way, both compliment and balance each other. Structure and flow, right brain and left brain, bearing down and throwing open.
What does balance look like for you?
