So I have a secret -- I love gingham.
I had the honor of hosting an Artist Way cluster recently and one of our assignments was to draw our childhood bedroom.
I had two distinct bedrooms, the one which I consider my childhood bedroom, a lovely pink confection. This room had a drawing table and a transistor radio and was a little haven -- unfortunately it was located in Detroit, and my father's commute to his new job in Southfield made it necessary for us to move. My new room in the suburbs was my teenage bedroom full of bold yellow and oranges, a luster shag carpeting and a sunshine mural painted on the ceiling by me. A new school to attend and 30 minutes away from all of my childhood friends -- I did a lot of drawing. I think I probably even drew new friends. Constants in both my bedrooms were gingham, and my bird, Binkie.
The pink gingham bedspread went with the child and yellow large checked gingham went with the adolescent.
The parakeet was bought because my parents didn't want me to be lonely. (They really were opposed to four legged furry creatures. Besides Parakeets are really good listeners.)
My other secret? I may be slightly addicted to grunging things up with gesso and a brayer, which is a crazy fun tool when you play with gesso.
Do you have any secrets you want to share, perhaps a love of corduroy?
