Recently talking to my sister she mentioned that Fall always makes her a little sentimental. I nodded my head in recognition, and today I hear her words again -- fall affects me too. September makes me tender and nostalgic.
I am celebrating a wedding anniversary of 36 years to a very dear man.
September 16, 1978
Leafing through the very quaint wedding album, I see faces I would love to see again, that have died. The reception was in my parents lovely yard and home that someone else owns now and I can drive by it, but not enter. Time moves on and we must too.
I also feel very blessed to have chosen someone that I still love and respect. Someone who gets it.
He tears up when he listens to “In My Life” along with me.
We rarely agree on movies or books to read, but we have great conversations at the end of each day. A lot of laughter and a lot of figuring things out together.
The inside jokes are many and I can read a glance from across a room and have a pretty good idea what he is thinking.
I have no magical answers for the longevity of our marriage but I do believe being young and silly and a wee (!) bit of stubborn helped us power through the tough times.
