Ah, the Happy Bubble is one of my favorite places in the whole wide world. An art studio lovingly created for me by my family.
The Happy Bubble used to be an office for the previous owners of our house. It had dark paneling and heavy curtains to block out the light of the windows that surround the room.
The curtains all came down, and we carpeted the room and used it as a seasonal porch and it was quite lovely. The children grew up and left. The room looked sad and empty -- even though the windows sparkled with promise.
One Mothers Day it was decided I should make the room into my art studio. My children lovingly pulled up the carpet and tiled it with a lovely terra cotta floor, painted the dark wood paneling a soft cream, my old drawing table was cleaned and placed in the corner and suddenly the seasons looked all the more beautiful out the windows.
Though I resisted full inhabiting my studio for quite a while . I was listening to my monsters say, who do you think you are painting and drawing? You can not spend time on things so frivoulous. One day I walked into the Happy Bubble and I felt like I had come home, the time was right, and it had been waiting for me.
Now it is one of my favorite places, to dream, create, meditate, pray or just be and watch the seasons change.
I even think I will spruce it up again this Spring. Possibly paint the outside of it a soft orange creamsicle color, I have a cabinet that would look smashing in a turquoise color and the ceiling fan well that needs some jazzing up too.
What's your happy bubble?
